  • Abstract: crystals (PCs) of a two-dimensional (2-D) rectangular lattice are investigated by using the standard plane-wave expansion method. Their band structures are found to be different from those of an exact square lattice, the rectangular lattice has Complete 2-D bandgaps when the ratio of the two bases is chosen properly.
